back in blogland

I'm Back!!!!

I've been away the last couple of months as we had family visiting, and when they have flown such a long way to get here i would have felt bad if i hadn't given them my full attention.

But now they are gone and that means i should be able to get lots more work done (in theory anyway).

want to see a new quilt?? I designed this one myself, and have to say that i love it. It's probably high on my favorites list. This little quilt is for a new baby, his Daddy is Australian and his mummy is chinese-australian so i thought it would suit them well.

Quilts for twins... and other babies

I've been meaning to blog for awhile now, but most of the time the masterpiece is napping i've been up in the studio working and moving things around (it looks very good now... just a bit more tidying to go and i might even take some photos).

It seems like it's a baby year with our friends and family expecting 7 new bubs (4 in 4 weeks!)... which can only mean one thing, 7 baby quilts... this doesn't include Toby's baby quilt that is still waiting to be basted (but as we received 3 quilts as presents i'm sure he won't notice the absence).

So first off.... the farm animal quilt that i made for my friend Marnie, the nursery theme is farms/farmyard/farmyard animals, so i think i've got it covered (i actually completed this before Toby was born).

it was a pattern by Mummy and me... can't seem to find a link, i know i bought it from a craft show at the Perth showgrounds several years ago.

Now the next quilts: Stu's cousin had twins a couple of days ago.... i was so excited when i found out that they were expecting, and twins! it was a huge surprise, I started the quilts prior to finding out the sex so not knowing if they were going to be girl/girl, boy/girl or boy/boy i decided to make "brown bear" and "hungry caterpiller" quilts, i wanted them to be similar styles, but not to matchy, if you know what i mean?

I'm particularly happy with the hungry caterpiller one... I designed it myself using the panel and the book as a guide.

Last but not least, not a quilt but more of a picnic blanket, it's for a family who are really into music, so i hope they like it.

You can't see it too well, but there is a "chester" dog softie stiing on the blanket too, and the fabric around the outside of the blanket is music notes.

There are a couple more quilts in the works that should be finished shortly.

stay tuned.

But what a masterpiece!

Toby was born on May 20th.

So sorry if i'm not around too much for awhile, but i am busy admiring my latest creation.

Booties

I haven't got a whole heap of sewing done recently, but i have managed to pick up the crochet hook and made a couple of pairs of booties.

Now just waiting for the little feet to arrive to fill them....

Duckies...

I just had to show you the favors for our baby shower, i wanted to give everyone who comes a little gift (as i wasn't that thrilled about having a shower at all, but that is another story).

I came up with these:
What do you think??

Well it's the 31st.....

And did i achieve my goal?? well not quite... i was aiming for 31 Softies in 31 days. I achieved 24.

I do plan to make the rest over the next few days, and over the long weekend the softies and i will be off on a field trip and plan on taking lots of photos, so watch this space.

finally.... the chicken

Clucky the chicken, with her chicks!

Now the pattern... after my rant the other day, i sat down and thought about the pattern some more, and honestly it wasn't the pattern, it was me.

I was making things a lot harder than it needed to be, by changing the colour of the lining of the wings for a start... it wasn't impossible, but it did involve a lot of thinking...

The other problem i had involved turning the tail and the comb... the pattern used pellon to make both of these pieces nice and fluffy, however it made turning them quite hard, i eventually removed some of the "bulk" of the pellon, which made things much easier.

Overall i think she is a pretty awesome chick!

Well you were supposed to see a chicken....

I know, i'm behind again, but i've been feeling pretty ordinary for the past few days, so i decided to take some time off and concentrate on the other masterpiece that i'm working on.

So today i was going to make a chicken and her 4 baby chicks, but the pattern and i are having issues. And i decided that i should probably just walk away until i could sit down and nut it out properly, i didn't want to end up throwing the whole thing away (and TRUST ME) i was considering it, i also don't want to end up hating sewing...

The pattern is that bad!
