<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I've been away the last couple of months as we had family visiting, and when they have flown such a long way to get here i would have felt bad if i hadn't given them my full attention.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">But now they are gone and that means i should be able to get lots more work done (in theory anyway).</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">want to see a new quilt?? I designed this one myself, and have to say that i love it. It's probably high on my favorites list. This little quilt is for a new baby, his Daddy is Australian and his mummy is chinese-australian so i thought it would suit them well.</span><br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-82505849483233202622010-07-01T15:21:00.000-05:002010-07-01T15:21:47.403-05:00Quilts for twins... and other babies<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I've been meaning to blog for awhile now, but most of the time the masterpiece is napping i've been up in the studio working and moving things around (it looks very good now... just a bit more tidying to go and i might even take some photos).</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">It seems like it's a baby year with our friends and family expecting 7 new bubs (4 in 4 weeks!)... which can only mean one thing, 7 baby quilts... this doesn't include Toby's baby quilt that is still waiting to be basted (but as we received 3 quilts as presents i'm sure he won't notice the absence).</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So first off.... the farm animal quilt that i made for my friend Marnie, the nursery theme is farms/farmyard/farmyard animals, so i think i've got it covered (i actually completed this before Toby was born).</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/TCz1E0DfY9I/AAAAAAAAAII/6fVegAFqoWs/s1600/Marnie+and+Paul%27s+baby+quilt.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rw="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/TCz1E0DfY9I/AAAAAAAAAII/6fVegAFqoWs/s320/Marnie+and+Paul%27s+baby+quilt.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">it was a pattern by Mummy and me... can't seem to find a link, i know i bought it from a craft show at the Perth showgrounds several years ago.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Now the next quilts: Stu's cousin had twins a couple of days ago.... i was so excited when i found out that they were expecting, and twins! it was a huge surprise, I started the quilts prior to finding out the sex so not knowing if they were going to be girl/girl, boy/girl or boy/boy i decided to make "brown bear" and "hungry caterpiller" quilts, i wanted them to be similar styles, but not to matchy, if you know what i mean?</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/TCz3i3TzlKI/AAAAAAAAAIY/q1FBJdXnFcs/s1600/DSC_0241.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rw="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/TCz3i3TzlKI/AAAAAAAAAIY/q1FBJdXnFcs/s320/DSC_0241.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/TCz3qZHvpQI/AAAAAAAAAIg/qrytbUvXJIw/s1600/DSC_0245.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rw="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/TCz3qZHvpQI/AAAAAAAAAIg/qrytbUvXJIw/s320/DSC_0245.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I'm particularly happy with the hungry caterpiller one... I designed it myself using the panel and the book as a guide.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Last but not least, not a quilt but more of a picnic blanket, it's for a family who are really into music, so i hope they like it.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/TCz4Vh5cvgI/AAAAAAAAAIo/ZPbX5KU70GI/s1600/DSC_0247.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rw="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/TCz4Vh5cvgI/AAAAAAAAAIo/ZPbX5KU70GI/s320/DSC_0247.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You can't see it too well, but there is a "chester" dog softie stiing on the blanket too, and the fabric around the outside of the blanket is music notes.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">There are a couple more quilts in the works that should be finished shortly.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">stay tuned.</span></div>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-12058219071409430312010-06-04T22:40:00.000-05:002010-06-04T22:40:19.617-05:00it took almost 10 months....<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But what a masterpiece!</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">I came up with these:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> </span><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S7VQnlocKZI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/gx5ydqkWZBQ/s1600/DSC_0085.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S7VQnlocKZI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/gx5ydqkWZBQ/s320/DSC_0085.JPG" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"> What do you think?? </span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Clucky the chicken, with her chicks!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Now the pattern... after my rant the other day, i sat down and thought about the pattern some more, and honestly it wasn't the pattern, it was me.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">I was making things a lot harder than it needed to be, by changing the colour of the lining of the wings for a start... it wasn't impossible, but it did involve a lot of thinking...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The other problem i had involved turning the tail and the comb... the pattern used pellon to make both of these pieces nice and fluffy, however it made turning them quite hard, i eventually removed some of the "bulk" of the pellon, which made things much easier.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Overall i think she is a pretty awesome chick!</span></div>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-61063929293003031432010-03-23T17:59:00.000-05:002010-03-23T17:59:58.555-05:00Well you were supposed to see a chicken....<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I know, i'm behind again, but i've been feeling pretty ordinary for the past few days, so i decided to take some time off and concentrate on the other masterpiece that i'm working on.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">So today i was going to make a chicken and her 4 baby chicks, but the pattern and i are having issues. And i decided that i should probably just walk away until i could sit down and nut it out properly, i didn't want to end up throwing the whole thing away (and TRUST ME) i was considering it, i also don't want to end up hating sewing...</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">The pattern is that bad!</span>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-60018204358568623572010-03-18T22:34:00.000-05:002010-03-18T22:34:10.859-05:00The train set<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So this is what i've been working on for the past week... cute isn't it. I bought it as a kit from the quilt cottage in Anguston (South Australia) last year.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">You have to excuse the photos, they were taken last at night.</span><br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5bHJe-SSLI/AAAAAAAAAEw/JfFMd_G3Fc0/s1600-h/DSC_0049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5bHJe-SSLI/AAAAAAAAAEw/JfFMd_G3Fc0/s320/DSC_0049.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I found a super easy tutorial for this ball online, <a href="http://grandrevivaldesign.typepad.com/grand_revival_design/2007/12/time-on-my-hand.html">here</a>. It took about 20 minutes all up, including picking out the fabrics!</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">and i finished this:</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5bIl2lVeyI/AAAAAAAAAE4/h5uXq4wqDrs/s1600-h/DSC_0048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5bIl2lVeyI/AAAAAAAAAE4/h5uXq4wqDrs/s320/DSC_0048.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">A cushion! it's from an awesome book called: One yard wonders, I bought it from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. There are so many projects that i want to try, only problem is, not surprisingly you need a yard of fabric for each projects, and i seem to have a large stash of fat quarters but not so many bigger pieces of fabric.... guess that just means i will have to go shopping!</span></div>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-31588576092677717962010-03-08T21:01:00.000-06:002010-03-08T21:01:35.694-06:00For those playing along at home....<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Meet Dilbert the dinosaur, and Drake the Dragon. Dilbert is a <a href="http://mellyandme.typepad.com/">Melly and Me</a> pattern, and Drake is from the book Kaleidoscope, also by Melly and me. I decided to make Dilbert's spikes out of some hand felted wool felt that i bought about a year ago. Dilbert was interesting to make... he is more of a 2D animal, and i struggled with the ric rac on his back, but overall i al pretty happy with the way he turned out.</span><br />
<br />
<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I also worked on a cushion, which i will show you tomorrow, because it comes from an awesome book that i bought a couple of weeks ago.</span></div>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-69273659872611393542010-03-07T18:11:00.000-06:002010-03-07T18:11:24.479-06:00Day 6 and 7<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Meet the latest addition to the soft toy family...</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5Q-zj90IOI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/CX0Fg2pDcWQ/s1600-h/DSC_0039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5Q-zj90IOI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/CX0Fg2pDcWQ/s320/DSC_0039.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Very hard to take a pic of this one. It's a baby waldorf flat doll. I picked it up as a kit on etsy last year, it took two days to make on the account that it's head is made from wool, and i had to felt it to get it to make a nice ball shape.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">In other exciting news.... the quilt Stu and i made for our anniversary is now finished and on the bed! (it's a Jan Mullen/stargazey pattern called Dark nightz).</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5RAEI_3IKI/AAAAAAAAAEY/6y1cmrqZgHc/s1600-h/DSC_0038.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5RAEI_3IKI/AAAAAAAAAEY/6y1cmrqZgHc/s320/DSC_0038.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The centres of the blocks were made using pieces of old ties, and the borders were made using different shades/textured brown fabrics. I am so happy with the way it turned out, and i think it works really well on our bed.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-66452006206969408062010-03-05T20:10:00.000-06:002010-03-05T20:10:59.827-06:00Day 5<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I didn't get around to making a softie yesterday, but i was one up from the previous day.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Today i decided to make Magoo the monkey (<a href="http://mellyandme.typepad.com/">Melly and Me</a> pattern).</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5G5pIQ6UTI/AAAAAAAAAEI/IfiJQwKqINM/s1600-h/DSC_0034.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S5G5pIQ6UTI/AAAAAAAAAEI/IfiJQwKqINM/s320/DSC_0034.JPG" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I really liked this pattern, although i did make a few changes. I decided that while i was putting the body together i would sew the arms in as it was for a baby i thought that doing this would create stronger joints, and i wouldn't have to worry about an arm falling off. I also decided to put elastic in his shorts so that they would easily stay up without the need to attach them to the monkey.</span>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-56559265642496664262010-03-03T18:13:00.000-06:002010-03-03T18:13:39.441-06:00Day three....<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Meet Hooty and Tweet! Her talk was great, and i got to meet her afterwards, and she is truly lovely.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">There are 150 members of the guild and i think i will probably become a member next month, i'm a bit hesitant, as I know that in a few months i am going to have a baby with me and i'm not sure if they will appreciate a tiny screaming new member.... but we will just see how we go.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Must be off, will be back later with today's softie... if anyone is looking for me, i'm up in the studio making a giraffe...</span>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-21933254093361720202010-03-01T23:01:00.001-06:002010-03-02T15:34:05.565-06:00Day One<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Meet Phoebe....</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S4ybiwdgsUI/AAAAAAAAADw/IG8ePJlSReU/s1600-h/DSC_0021.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S4ybiwdgsUI/AAAAAAAAADw/IG8ePJlSReU/s320/DSC_0021.JPG" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">She's an elephant (in case you couldn't tell!).</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">This is a <a href="http://mellyandme.typepad.com/">Melly and Me</a> pattern and i will be using several of these over the next month, just because they are fantastic patterns! easy to understand and honestly the results are always awesome!</span>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8038838207697499371.post-76879103504285863362010-02-28T17:22:00.000-06:002010-02-28T17:22:46.642-06:00Feb Challenge.... or leaving things to the last minute....<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Okay, so yet again i left things until the last possible moment, there are several possible reasons for this... </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1) knit fabrics terrify me </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2) I didn't own any knit fabrics</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">3) i had no idea what i was going to make</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">4) my SD card is having a few issues....</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">Anyway enough excuses!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">I don't know why knit fabrics make me feel this way, when i first started sewing knit fabics were the ones i used on a regular basis (and i guess if i had just taken an easy option i could have made a pretty simple jumper in less than an hour...) I think it might have to do with the wrap dress that i/mum (mainly mum) made last year... while it looked great in the end it was pain while in progress.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">And the second excuse was solved early in the month when i made my first order from <a href="http://www.sewbaby.com/shopbaby/index.php">Sew baby</a> (more about the order later) and selected to buy a fabric remnant grab bag, i was surprised to find several knit pieces included.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">This then led to solving the next problem, what to make, since it was a remnant i was limited to something pretty small, and while reading through a blog one day (no ideas who). I found a link to <a href="http://www.make-your-own-baby-stuff.com/pinafore-pattern.html">this pattern</a> and thought i would give it a go.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial;">and this is the result:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S4r5G0__dzI/AAAAAAAAADg/jAi9euRzNlY/s1600-h/DSC_0003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S4r5G0__dzI/AAAAAAAAADg/jAi9euRzNlY/s320/DSC_0003.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">And.... it's reversible...</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S4r5_SlgSaI/AAAAAAAAADo/N2ZKoRVZge4/s1600-h/DSC_0012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" kt="true" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_eftneU6v6HM/S4r5_SlgSaI/AAAAAAAAADo/N2ZKoRVZge4/s320/DSC_0012.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I am pretty happy with it, and it gave me a chance to use my funky new tool (see studs... i made studs!!)</span></div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">And now on to the March challenge, to make a softie. As i ove making softies, have heaps and heaps of patterns and i need to make the nursery look cute, I've decided to make a softie a day for the month... am i nuts?? well probably.....</span></div>Kirstyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11527751562247641208noreply@blogger.com2
